Advanced Media

This course is designed to be both self-led, and a teacher supported course.  Students will build upon the skills and knowledge from their previous media classes to advance their skills through the production of various projects.  Students work collaboratively in groups to complete projects and may also be asked to work on building level projects as well.
In this course, students will hone their media production skills by planning, editing, writing, and shooting feature stories for various projects. They will explore various types of broadcast, such as podcasts and news broadcasts, create instructional, promotional, morning announcement intro’s, and music related productions, and gain "real world" experience in the role of producer and director.  Projects will be expected to be completed at a high level so that they can be published on the school district's official YouTube channel and featured in various ways throughout the school year.  Each month, students focus on a different discipline or genre of production.  Students will also learn how to break down and analyze film and documentaries.

Students will be challenged to produce episodes of Wildcat Corner, a magazine style show focusing on various topics related to the school district, and the community the district serves.  The target runtime for these episodes will be 15 minutes and include news packages, interviews, and the use of b-roll (extra video).  This is part of a school district initiative.  Through the media program, we aim to produce two episodes per month.  Students will have multiple projects/assignments going at the same time, so time management will is important.   The biggest project students will produce during the school year is a short film, which is fully scripted out.  They must incoporate all elements they've perfected throughout the program, including proper sound effects, music, lighting, shooting techniques, and high quality audio recording.  They will also learn about movie script writing, and produce a script in that format.
